Story

update:- well I managed both!  38 minutes for the swim, and 2 hours 1 minute for the run!  both brilliant days - weather hot on both days - great events!  Thanks to everyone who sponsored me- I know some really generous people - and I really appreciate all your support.  Next year!?!

PS if you are visiting this page for the first time - you can still donate - read below for details of Mercy Ships and the excellent work they do.

Hello, and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Once again I have left it to the last minute as I am never sure whether I am going to be able to do the events - I am getting old you know!  But fingers crossed that I will be OK.

This year I am doing the Great North Swim in Windermere on the 12th September, and the following weekend the Great North Run from Newcastle to South Shields on the 20th September.  I must be mad - (but I have my reasons).

I am running for a great charity - Mercy Ships.   - an international Christian charity using hospital ships and land-based programmes to deliver specialised health care and community development services around the world.  Some of you may remember the Africa Mercy which spent several years in the Tyne being refitted as a hospital ship.  It is now in the port of Cotonou, capital of the small West-African country of Benin actively serving as a hospital ship to those who otherwise would have no access to specialised medical treatment.   Mercy Ships does much much more - please visit their website by clicking here or follow the link on the left of this page.  You will see that my little bit of effort over the next three weeks is nothing compared to the difference that Mercy Ships can make to lives.  And you can help - any donation you are able to make will help to provide this essential and life-changing service.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

BUT  I know not everyone likes to donate online - so I do have "old-fashioned" sponsor forms too!  Send me an email to dave_lockney@yahoo.co.uk, or for those of you at work please use my @stc address - or even phone me, drop in to see me, just let me know if you would like to donate - and how much!

Thanks for taking the time to read this - I really appreciate it.

Dave
