Story

Update.... Dave completed his marathon debut in 4 hours and 10 minutes in the Halstead & Essex Marathon!  He also set a half marathon personal best time of 1 hour 42 minutes in Prague.

There's still time to donate in recognition of his success!

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Dave Turley will be running in the Prague Half Marathon on 27th March 2010 and (pending no injuries) the Halstead Marathon on 9th May 2010 to raise money for Braintree District International Scout Expedition and the Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

In August this year, Braintree District Scouts will be taking 28 young people from 4 Scout troops and 1 Explorer Unit to the International Scout Camp Site in Kandersteg, Switzerland. This will be the first International expedition for all the young people involved. Activities will include hiking along the Eiger trail, canoeing, sailing and an International camp fire evening. These experiences will give the boys and girls the opportunity to work towards their Chief Scout and Duke of Edinburgh Awards as well as complete an International Service Project. Funds raised will subsidise activities to ensure time in Kandersteg leads each individual to take on new challenges and push their boundaries.

We have all been touched by the plight of the Haitian people following the disastrous earthquake on 12th January. As members of the Scouting Organisation, supporting others in need is a core belief for us all. Please help us raise vital funds for the 3 million people that have been affected by the 7.0 catastrophic earthquake. Over 200,000 people have been declared dead and 300,000 people injured. It is estimated 250,000 homes and 30,000 commercial buildings have collapsed or have been severely damaged. We would like to support the DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee) in raising funds to help the Haitian people rebuild their lives from the ruins. The DEC consists of: Action Aid, British Red Cross, CAFOD, CARE International UK, Christian Aid, Concern Worldwide, Help the Aged, Islamic Relief, Merlin, Oxfam, Save the Children, Tearfund, World Vision. http://www.dec.org.uk/who_we_are/
