My story

Update 5th October 2009 - the day after!

The photo tells the story, yes we did it (I did five of the six miles unaided, had a ride in the wheelchair for the last mile).  Thank you all for your donations.  David

I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in November 2007.  As my condition deteriorated I was transferred to University College Hospital, London where I was under the care of a brilliant team of medical staff led by Dr Ardeshna.  I was treated with two courses of chemotherapy.  Unfortunately the second course knocked me out completely and I spent five weeks in intensive care, at the end of which I was found to be suffering from a brain abscess.
I was transferred to the National Hospital for Neurosurgery in Queen Square where I spent a further three months recovering.

I was then transferred to the Regional Rehabilation Unit at Northwick Park Hospital, Harrow for a further three months.

Since coming home in July 2008 I have gradually regained my strength to a point where I am attempting the London Bridgathon walk on 4th October in aid of the Lymphoma and Leukaemia Unit at UCH.  I will attempt to walk as much of the six miles as is humanly possible, I will take my wheelchair in case I need it!

Please give as much or as little as you are able to help this hospital and the wonderful staff.

Thank you.

David Beasley
