My story
In May of this year I am running the full length of The Cumbria Way long distance footpath (72 miles) in under 24 hours. Im hoping to raise as much money as possible for the Castleberg Hospital in Giggleswick, North Yorkshire. I hope to raise this money in memory of my mother Denise Candlin.
In November 2011 my mum became suddenly ill without warning. She was initially diagnosed with an inner ear infection and told that she would get better. After several weeks of deteriorating poor health she was finally taken for a brain scan which revealed a large tumour on the front right hand side of her brain. This was later diognosed, four days before Christmas, as a type 4, terminal brain tumour with a 0% chance of survival. Despite major brain surgeory to try and prelong her life she sadly passed away surrounded by her family on the 24th January 2012 in Catleberg hospital near her home in the Yorkshire dales.
It is my aim, through generous dontations, to raise money to help support the hospital. The money will be used to help buy much need medical equipment which helped my mum in her final few weeks.
Castleberg is a small cottage hospital which nurses many elderly patients who are recovering from operations and other health problems. It also, on occasion, cares for terminally ill patients who are near the end of their life's. Without this hospital many elderly, vulnerable and terminally ill people wouldn't be able to receive the vital help and treatment that they need.
The staff at the hospital offer amazing care which sadly can go overlooked. Without their dedicated support many people would suffer alone and in pain. The treatment I witnessed to my mother and other patients was incrediably professional and compassionate. The hospital gave me and many others the opportunity to be with their loved ones as they passed away or recover from illness.
I want to raise as much money as I can to say a massive thankyou to all the staff for their work and their continued support. The more money raised, the more people can be helped.
All donations are greatly received and will not be forgotton. All donations made are fully secure and every penny will go to the hospital to help people.
Thank you.
