Help for Heroes (www.helpforheroes.org.uk) provide practical support for soldiers who have suffered life changing injuries. As a former Royal Marine and Army Officer I want to help raise money for this worthwhile charity.
On the 22nd October 2009 I depart London for Marrakech in Morroco to take part in the Rallye du Maroc http://www.npo.fr/maroc2009/ The rally will be demanding, physically and technically.... 6 days of racing covering 2500kms, composed of stages in loops around Zagora, through the mountain tracks, wadis, ergs and sand dunes of southern Morocco.
I will be racing my KTM 525 Motorcycle, alongside other amateur racers as well as professional factory supported rally riders like Marc Coma and Cyril Despres. Each day will vary, but will be 300 miles or more, the equivalent distance of London to Newcastle, all off road. More detail on the route in Morocco can be found here: http://www.npo.fr/maroc2009/pdf/CP5-MAR09-230909EN.pdf There are also cars and trucks in this international event, which many teams will use as preparation for the next Dakar in Argentina/Chile in January 2010.
I will be supported by Patsy Quick's Desert Rose Racing Team (http://www.desertroseracing.com/) Patsy was the first British woman to complete the Dakar Rally and inspired me to compete in the last African Dakar in 2007.
I hope you will follow my progress and feel able to give generously to what I know is a charity that makes a real difference to people whose lives will be very different to what they had before.
