First the good news - I’ve finally found a charitable event I can do sitting down. Now the bad news – I have to ride 1000 miles in 24 hours on a motorbike to do it. Myself and a friend, Chris Cooper, have linked up with IronbuttUK http://www.ironbuttuk.org/ and are setting off on the 6 July in an attempt to ride from Monument in London to Montepulciano in Italy in 24 hours, a distance of 1010 miles. Joining us in the attempt as pillion passengers are my wife, Barbara, and Chris’ sister, Jane. I’m resisting suggestions from Barbara to get a Bluetooth headset for the crash helmets so ‘we’ can chat on the way down. Barbara bursting into ‘the hills are alive with the sound of music’ as we pass by Switzerland is one challenge too many! The training has been going well – I have been sitting down for extended periods of time to get my backside in peak physical condition for the challenge ahead. That, plus a stock of Pro Plus and Red Bull, should see me through! The charity is The Africa Childrens Development Trust, which is a small charity based on the Isle of Wight dedicated to supporting vulnerable children in Uganda through a number of projects that encompass health, agriculture and education, in particular mosquito net distributions Every £3 donated buys a mosquito net for 2 children to sleep under, please see the pictures attached. These are real children and the nets will help to save lives. Every penny you donate goes to buy the nets as we are funding the entire trip ourselves. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
I've started the ball rolling with a donation so please dig deep, feel good about yourself, and donate now - you know you want to.
Thanks
David (& Barbara) xx
