Update 10th October - sadly I have broken my collar bone - so no triathlon for me! If you still wish to donate then that would be great but obviously it's not quite thw same thing! For those who already donated, I'll contact you separately

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Like last year, I am doing the Wey Kayak Club Triathlon this year on the 25th October, a fun filled morning of kayaking, biking and running.

The JustGiving blurb is below, but before reading that you might want to just take a moment to understand why I am doing this for the second time, and asking some of you to sponsor me again to raise funds for the Samson Centre in Guildford. I know that times are tough for many people, but the needs of those whose lives are changed by an illness such as MS does not go away. In the three and half years that I have been involved with the Guildford Waterside Centre; and hence got to know the Samson Centre and those who make it work, the effects of this horrible disease have become sadly apparent. When I was a student (many years ago now) my Pure Maths tutor's wife suffered from MS. In those days, although she had lots of technology to make her life easier, the sort of therapies offered by the Samson Centre just didn't seem to exist. So am I happy to support the Samson Centre and would ask you to as well.

Now for the tricky stuff. Last year, my times for the 3 legs (kayak, bike and run) were approximately 39, 41 and 27 minutes, totalling 107 minutes. Not bad for an old timer (middle age timer...) you might say, but boy the competition was tough and the vast majority of competitors did better than that. So this year, I aim to dip under the 100 minutes barrier. A year's improvement in kayaking, road tyres as opposed to off-road ones, and better fitness should do the job. To incentivise me, can I suggest that having decided on an amount to donate, do 50% initially and then the other 50% if I make my target. And I'll match the extra 50% of donations too..

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
