It occurs when the body&rsquo;s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. What causes the immune system to do this is not entirely known. People with type 1 diabetes must inject insulin several times each day and are affected by a number of issues. These are related to health and lifestyle. C<span style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold;">hanges in diet or exercise can help to manage the condition but cannot prevent or cure it.
