My story

Final update from me on this one.....I made it.  Not in the time I was hoping for.  I ran the first 15 miles in 2 hours and the next 11 took 3 hours 24 mins!  It was very steep and very hot....over 25oC.  Cramp set in and it is fair to say I didn't do much running in the hill section. Nevertheless it is heartening to report and as you will see in the clip by clicking the attached link that I finished at a fine canter and in better shape than some of the people who crossed the line at around the same time as me.  It gives me heart that I may break 5.0 hrs when I run this blinking thing again in two years time.  The Big 5 0  I think I'll call it.

Thanks again for all your support.  The Rainbow Charity Trust is going to be as delighted as I am.

Well.....blow me down.....we made it to £10,000.....can't tell you grateful I am for all this support.....feel free to keep it coming just to make sure I get down from the top of this hill I've decided to wander up!  Thank you!!!

On September 10th I will be running the Jungfrau Marathon - http://www.jungfrau-marathon.ch/ws2/en/marathon2/ . I have attached the route profile to my fundraising page together with a photograph taken after the Crick, a 10 mile cross country run, which I competed in earlier this year.  As I said at the time the thing I admire most in myself is my ability to make everything I do appear so completely effortless, but I don't mind telling you I'm quite worried about this one.  I've been grappling with a knee injury - most probably psychosomatic - but also, I think it is fair to say, the Jungfrau Marathon presents a particularly steep challenge.  Any contribution you decide to make will, in the first instance, help  ensure I actually get on that Easyjet flight from Luton down to Switzerland and make it to the start line.  If you want to be even more sadistic I have a secret ambition of doing this run in under 5 hours and you could factor that into your donation, but please don't tell anyone else..... anyway, all help and support welcomed and thank you in advance.

I am raising money for The Rainbow Trust which helps families who have children with life-threatening illnesses.  It is Nomura's chosen charity for 2011 which means that the company will match some of the money I raise.  However, more importantly for me is that the family of one of my oldest friends is facing this very battle at the moment and the charity is therefore especially poignant at this time.  I will be thinking of them every step of the way as I slog my up the Jungfrau.  I hope you will be able to contribute and help me in my goal to to raise £10,000.  Thanks again!
