Dear reader,
Many thanks for visiting my fundraising page!
Dental Project Peru was founded in 2002 by dentist Jacqui Kotula. Jacqui’s motivation behind the project remains her love for the Peruvian people and her desire and determination to provide dental care on a continual basis to those desperately in need who simply have no affordable means of receiving it.
My recent dental trip to Peru was in September 2009. A team of ten, including six dentists and a dental therapist, headed out to the Apurimac region where we provided dental care to over five hundred children and adults. It was a very successful trip!
Having visited the Apurimac previously I was fully aware of what to expect and how great they were in need. The trip report that Jacqui wrote on our August trip in 2005 touched on many of our shared experiences and I hope you enjoy reading it (www.dentalprojectperu.org – trip reports – Aug 2005) and looking at a few of our pictures (http://dentalprojectperu.dotphoto.com/CPViewAlbum.asp?AID=2616557). It is difficult to describe in words the places we visit, the patients we treat and the experiences we all gain on an individual basis. And so we hope these photos help take you there. Please select "Watch Show" for the album you wish to view to best enjoy the images
All donations go directly to the dental project enabling the provision of dental care to the people.
As an example of what your contribution will help fund:
Gloves: £22 per box – this will allow me to perform dental treatment for one whole day
Local anaesthetic: £20 per box. This will let me treat some 50 patients
Suture pack: pack of sutures cost £7 (this will treat 12 people) – if we are removing e.g. several teeth on one adult we need to suture them to help prevent infection
Specialised Fluoride Varnish – dental decay prevention programme: £18 per tube. We require 35 tubes per trip
Dental instruments: prices range from £5 - 400 for probes/mirrors (to aid assessment), forceps and elevators (for tooth extractions) and hand-pieces, allowing us to restore teeth (fillings)
Muchas gracias!!!......and remember, the smallest donation makes a difference.
Dave Wilson
