Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page where 100% of all donations go to the amazing Riders for Health charity. Each pound donated will go to the specific project to create a Carole Nash motorcycle maintenance facility with a small fleet of bikes and trained staff in Harare to help the people of Zimbabwe through providing essential transport support to health workers in otherwise impossible to reach places. None of these donations are used to fund my trip.
The challenge itself is a long held personal ambition to attempt to reach the geographic north pole in April 2010. As a member of a team of five, we will initially train and acclimatise in Spitsbergen, within the high arctic archipelago of Svalbard, before transferring by Russian aircraft to the temporary ice station Barneo. From there we will set out to cover the last one degree latitude, ie from 89 to 90 degrees. Facing temperatures of below minus 35 degrees, arctic storms, thin ice with 4000 metres of the arctic ocean below and of course polar bears just awakening from hibernation we will endeavour to walk and ski, sleeping on the ice, to our dream of the north pole.
