Hi Everyone. If you're reading this then you're hopefully considering making a donation. Please have a look at the web site for Disability sports N.I. to see what a worthwhile charity this is.
Davy is turning 50 and he's recently retired (mind you he's now busier and works harder than he has done in 10 yrs!) He's enjoying being his own man and gets great satisfaction from his work.
As most of you know, Davy has been a fit, active sportsman all his life. He only gave up playing football matches about 8 years ago. In fact I remember him excusing himself for a couple of hours to play a football match for a work league- we were moving house that day!! He has had a couple of knee Ops over time but he couldn't stop playing sport, whether that was Football, swimming, tri-athlon or golf. Now that he actually needs a new knee he's still keen to keep up the swimming and can swim up to 70 lengths in 40 mins and plans to cycle more. (if he can drag himself away from his paintbrush!) His latest sport is sea kayaking.
Davy knows how lucky he's been throughout his life with only injuries which put him out of action for short periods at a time. He is grateful that he has been able & fit and knows that so many kids cannot achieve the same goals or don't have the same opportunities to do so. I feel he would think this a fabulous charity and the group of people who work with the disabled kids while they try these sports, extremely gifted. He knows he has been blessed with 5 (yes I know that's hard to believe!) very healthy, active, sporty , able kids. Ryan 26yrs has played football from a very early age and still plays for Dromara and is a keen cyclist. Graham 19 yrs played Rugby for Banbridge Club and County Schools Athletics, he now keeps fit in the gym and is in peak condition working in the building trade. Rory 6yrs has just finished his first season with Ridgeway Rovers Football Club and is a great wee swimmer. He can also do a single armed press-up! Wee George 2yrs is always running around on the go. He watches Rory play football on a Saturday and can run with the ball with great control-the next Geordie Best apparently (says Davy!)
So you see, Davy is so grateful and knows how lucky he is and that there are so many kids who can do none of the above. However, some kids can do some of the activities in some way, some of the time, with charities like Disability Sports N.I. to assist them and thats were your money can help.
