Thanks for visiting our team fundraising page.
This challenge has now been completed, however it’s not too late to donate to this charity as this page will remain open until the end of October.
After a few months of training we completed the 3 Peaks over the weekend of the 17th and 18th of Sept. After a 4am start on Saturday and in heavy rain we commenced our climb to Ben Nevis. We reached the summit at 07:30 and stopped for a quick break. It must have been freezing on the top as I captured frost forming on Aussie Dave’s hat! As with all mountain climbs coming down is no easier than going up as your knees take a hammering. Our ascent on Scafell was no easier, this time we were caught out at approx 1000ft in low cloud, almost to the point where we couldn’t see our hands in front of our faces. Luckily we navigated our way through and reached the summit at 01:00 am some 2.5hrs late. Snowdon being the easier climb of all three, the summit was achieved in just over 2 hrs. However within minutes of starting the heavens opened and we got soaked again!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank each of you who supported our event by donating to this worthwhile cause. We have raised approximately £4000.00 including off line sponsorship which is appreciated by us and the Chartwell Unit at the Princess Royal Hospital, Farnborough, Kent.
We would also like to thank Bristol Street Motors Bromley who kindly donated a vehicle and two tanks of fuel. This donation has significantly changed the amount the charity will now receive.
Baz/Jane/Sindy thank you for supporting us and driving 1400 miles to each peak and getting us home all in one piece.
A brilliant weekend challenge shared with friends and for a great cause.
Thank you all...........
Over the weekend of September 17 and 18 we will be taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge. This involves climbing the three highest peaks across the UK and is often described as one of the UK’s ultimate challenges. The mountains to be climbed are Ben Nevis 1,344 metres (4,409ft) in Western Scotland, Scafell Pike 978 metres(3,209ft) in North-Western England and Snowdon 1,085 metres (3,560ft) in North Wales. The total distance climbed is approximately 26miles, with the distance covered between the mountains being some 450 miles.
Our support team has kindly given up there weekend to take on the epic task of driving us to all 3 destinations and back home, well over 1000 miles round trip. There role within this challenge is equally as important as ours in contributing to making this event happen. They have also managed to secure a small minibus donated by Bristol Street Motors.
The challenge will be undertaken to raise money for BALLAM (Bromley Area Leukaemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma Support group), a local charity in Bromley. BALLAM was founded in 1989 to support the lives of patients with leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma living in the local Bromley area. Providing financial and emotional support to hundreds of individuals, BALLAM raises money through fundraising events and donations, all of which goes directly towards patient care and support. Through completing this challenge our objective is to raise sponsorship to fund specialist equipment needed for Cancer patients at The Princess Royal Hospital. The Princess Royal need to raise approx £10,000 to purchase specialist blood equipment to make the lives of patients and nurses, easier and more comfortable. With sponsorships raised by completing the three peaks challenge, we aim to lessen this cost allowing the Princess Royal Hospital to invest in this much needed equipment.
Physically the Three Peaks challenge will be very demanding. Over the weekend of 17 September we aim to complete the challenge in as close to 24 hours as possible. This will include a minimum driving time of 11 hours and some 13 hours climbing, weather permitting! Scafell Pike need to be climbed during the night, which will be the one of the toughest parts for us. Weather conditions could have a large impact on the overall climbing capabilities but we are determined to complete the challenge within a good time.
We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has sponsored us so far. It is greatly appreciated and very motivational for us all. We have only just set this justgiving page up, but have already raised approximately £2,000 to this worthy cause. www.ballamsupportgroup.co.uk
