So I have decided to use the Women's 5K Challenge to get myself fitter and to help raise money for Chance UK. I have already been a mentor for Chance UK and I am planning to mentor again later this year. Please see below more information about what Chance UK do and please give generously!!
Chance UK provides one-to-one mentoring for children aged 5-11 with behavioural difficulties. Our mentors raise children's self esteem via activities such as games in the park, visiting museums or anything the child may be interested in.
Many of the children we work with are on the verge of being excluded from school. Our mentors help them with their specific behavioural difficulties to improve their self confidence, education and home lives.
Our objectives are:
- to introduce more stability into the children’s lives
- to reduce the isolation they and their families may be experiencing
- to directly address the difficulties experienced by each child
- to support the children as they find the motivation and life skills they need to move forward
- to channel their disruptive energy into projects that encourage a sense of personal achievement
- to engender in them a sense of self-worth.
