Checked into b&b. Early night with a nice English breakfast to look forward to in the morning...!

Hi all.

Well doing my first charity event ever on Saturday 18 June - a one mile swim in freezing cold Lake Windermere - the largest natural lake in the UK! That's 64 lengths of a standard pool, but in freezing cold water and waves - so please give generously to spur me on!

I will be raising funds for Crossroads Care Chesher East, Manchester and Tameside - a charity who offer assistance and help to carers.

I am paying the entry fee personally as the swim was something I wanted to do anyway - so all the money you donate will be going directly to Crossroads.

My mother and father had to care for my grandparents as they got older and partcularly as my grandfather's onset of Alzheimer's, and I saw first hand how stressful this was for them - being stuck indoors for hours at a time, over many years. My mother is now also employed as a carer, going into people's homes across the area, so carework has been something that we have been involved in for a while.

Crossroads Care aim is to relieve the stresses experienced by carers whose caring responsibilities may be due to a loved ones disability, illness or age. They provides a range of high quality services including short breaks, a palliative care service, support groups for those with a physical disability, early onset dementia or Aspergers Syndrome and a Young Carers project.

Crossroads Care Cheshire East has been operational for 20 successful years.

Being a carer can be rewarding but can also be a demanding and stressful responsibility. Their goals for the future are to continue to address the challenges faced by carers in their everyday lives and to enable them to have some normality in their lives.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now!
