Help me train some so they can treat many in Burma!
Thanks
Desirée
Hello friends, family, relatives and colleagues,
last year, I have travelled for one week, to a Burmese Refugee Camp at the Thai/Burma border, to teach a selected group of 33 dedicated students (Medics) mainly Karen People. The students will go on to treat thousands of patients in the following 12 months. Those who receive care will all be internally displaced people with no access to healthcare. This year, we are going to train 55 students, some at Level 1 and some at level 2. The students are very keen to learn and enthusiastic.
I am honoured to be part of a dedicated team of 30 doctors, nurses and midwifes from UK (Burma, America, Canada, South Africa an Germany), who are volunteering their time and their skills. We are taking our annual leave for the period, paying for our own flight fair, accomodation and expenses.
We are helping: not by treating some, but by training some to treat many.
Dr. Nash is my previous Consultant from South-East London NHS Trust. He is organising the whole training since 2007. Last year he and some other colleagues were able to collect the money for the training through the London Marathon and the 3 Peaks Challenge. This year, we have to raise about £10.000. You can be sure, that every penny you are donating is going towards the training and equipment for the Medics.
It costs £ 70 to provide 10 medical text books, or just £ 476 to train a medic for the whole 12 weeks.
The healthcare system in Burma is 2nd worst in the world, with the highest mortality rates from Malaria an Tuberculosis and the needs are vast!
Help us to train some to treat many in 2011.
So please dig deep and donate now!
Thank you very much for your support!
