My story

Please help us raise the remaining £250,000 required to save the world’s only surviving Do-17.

Donate today and save a unique piece of aviation history.

The RAF Museum has identified the remains of an intact WW2 Dornier Do-17 bomber, a German aircraft type that played a crucial role in the early part of the Second World War, in the shallows off the Kent coast.

The condition of the Dornier is rapidly deteriorating and the Museum is in a race against time to save it.

Conserving the Dornier is a huge engineering challenge. Constructed of aluminium it is very sensitive to corrosion. Few aluminium artefacts have been successfully recovered from the sea and so we are working with Imperial College London to develop innovative new methods to prevent the corrosion which will begin as soon as the Dornier is lifted from the channel.

We anticipate the Dornier that will require at least two years of conservation before can be exhibited with the rest of our Battle of Britain collection.

We hope to raise £250,000 from individuals like you in order to help support this conservation and so save this hugely significant aircraft. Please become an appeal supporter today.

You can make a donation of any size and it will make a real contribution to our efforts to save the Dornier.

Thank you for your support.

I hope you don't see any more theft from the dive site. This is a piece of everyone's heritage not for a few private collectors.

I wonder if there's a Stirling or a Whirlwind down there somewhere as well? Can't wait to see her safe on dry land and preserved for eternity.
