On the 31st January 2010, I will be launching myself (with a person & parachute strapped to my back) from 10,000 feet to fall gracefully through the clouds down onto the Kentish countryside.
Why? As many of you know, I spent numerous hours this year in the Heart of Kent Hospice where my Mum, Patricia was being cared for.
On one of these occasions, I happened to notice a flyer (no pun intended) asking for volunteers to participate in a tandem skydive. Now, I'm no great athlete, but I have done sponsored walks and runs in the past, and fancied something a little more.... risky? So here I am, less than a month to go!
I was, and still am deeply moved by the sheer dedication and positive attitude shown by the staff, not only towards the patients but also to the families of this service. We couldn't have asked for a more caring and peaceful environment for Mum at this time.
The care given is free to those who need it, but yet the Hospice only receives 29% of funding from statutory sources, thus having to rely on goodwill to fund the yearly running costs of almost £3 million. So please help me raise some money to keep this valuable service going.
Any contribution is much appreciated and will go to a very worthy cause, this means so much to me. And yes, I am REALLY SCARED!
Thank you
Eleanor
