My story
In the first half of 2011 mosaic artist Karla Duterloo invited 104 fellow artists to make a 20cmx20cm mosaic and send these to her along with a £10 donation for the Trust. These were then mounted as a stunning display at Central Middlesex Hospital, London (see left), and unveiled on 30th June by leading mosaic artist Martin Cheek and by Trust Founder Philip Holmes. The mosaics have also been reproduced in a book that has been published by Karla, with all proceeds going to the Trust.
As a follow on Martin has suggested that we aim to mount a similar display at our future children's refuge in Kathmandu, a new build that will begin in late 2011. This time Martin will donate eyes which are glass fusions that he has been making in his kiln (purchased through the proceeds of winning BBC TV's "The Weakest Link") that can be used as the focal points of mosaics. See examples of these on the left, all based on Nepali wildlife.
Participating artists will register their interest for £20 and we're asking you if you would co-sponsor a mosaic for £50 (each mosaic will therefore be worth £120) to raise £12,000. These funds will then be used for operational and material costs at our Bhairahawa integrated mosaic centre costs where deaf school leavers work alongside trafficking survivors (see video) and in support of mosaics that are being made for public display. Their latest project is the creation of a wall mosaic with a message at a school the Trust is building in an urban slum at Butwal - a community that is prone to girl trafficking.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the Trust and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now. In return (and if you so wish) you'll be linked to a named artist and your name as a sponsor will appear alongside the final display.
Best wishes
Philip Holmes

Charity Registration No. 1078187
The Esther Benjamins Trust is a children's charity working mainly in Nepal. It aims to give a childhood back to some of the world's most marginalised and forgotten children, including innocent children who once lived in prisons, street children, deaf and disabled children and children who have been trafficked into India and sold into bonded labour as circus performers.
