Hello and thank you for taking the time to visit this page to learn about and fundraise for the amazing cause that is DELTA!
DELTA stands for 'Deaf Education through Listening and Talking' and it promotes the 'Natural Aural Approach' that is about learning to talk in the natural way (the way all children do in the beginning) and to do with the ear and hearing and listening with great emphasis on the deaf child using their hearing, however little they may have. It also reminds people such as teachers, parents and families to reliase is not about leaving things to chance. There is evidence that this approach really works as the deaf children are talking and achieving well in their exams, jobs and their lives. A good example is me! I've just finished my Masters Degree on top of my bachelors degree and now about to embark on an amazing job with Severn trent Water as an Environmental Graduate.
DELTA provides support for families and professionals in a variety of ways:
1) Summer Schools
2) Information Days
3) Communication methods such as newsletters etc
4) YDAG (Young Deaf Adults Group) - network of young deaf oral people and their hearing friends and siblings.
5) Professional Training Days
6) Provides range of information and literature.
It is key that DELTA believes in putting the child first and celebrating their ability rather than their disability, and most importantly allows the child to speak for themselves!
