Hi All, I think I can safely say that all who went trekking on the elephants in Thailand were horrified by the way they were treated and their living conditions. I know I was. My elephant's keeper/torturer whipped her at every opportunity and never had a nice word for her. I have since found out how these poor animals have their spirits broken when only weeks old. Fiona (Fifi) recently volunteered at the only elephant sanctuary in Thailand and said what great work they are doing and described some of the elephants' stories. I propose that we all donate a little to this charity's good work. Apparently there is a tract of land the lady who runs the place wants/needs to buy to accomodate more elephants.

I realise that some on the email list didn't go on the trek but believe me it would have made you want to donate.
