Theo died on 31st July, aged 56, in Bahrain after a short but courageous battle against Pancreatic Cancer.
He was diagnosed in February earlier this year and was determined to do all he could to survive for his family. He underwent the Whipple procedure in France and was happy in the belief that the cancer was removed in its entirety. After two months, we returned to Bahrain for adjuvant chemotherapy, but our happiness was short-lived.
His follow-up scans in May revealed that the cancer had metastacised to the liver. Not good news! We were devastated and had to find the strength to pull ourselves up and begin the battle again. Somehow, we were able to carry on in the hope that the new chemotherapy would work and slow down the progression. Unfortunately, that didn't happen.
In July, we travelled to MD Anderson for a new treatment plan. We were told of further metastases to the abdomen. We came away still expecting to fight and win. Theo was admitted to hospital on our return. Little did we know then that he would fight his last battle.
He tried to beat the odds and had faith that he would eventually overcome this beast of beasts.
Without hope, we can not live.
Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers. Of those who are diagnosed and are lucky to be eligible for resection, less than 20% survive 5 years. Without surgery, 3%. If like Theo you are diagnosed at an advanced stage only 1% survive.
We hoped to be in that 1%.
PLEASE donate what you can to bring us closer to a cure and give a future to all sufferers.
