Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My husband Gary Appleton was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in May 2009. I never expected us to be affected by this horrible disease, but I have learnt that cancer isn't selective. Cancer wasn't part of our life plan but quickly destroyed our hopes and dreams.

We first visited the hopsice when Gary was diagnosed and quickly dismissed it as we assumed that this was a place for people that were older and went to die . As Gary's health deteriorated and after a major op I brought Gary home to die. However riding the rollercoaster that cancer takes you on nothing went to plan and in May 2010 Gary agreed to go into the hospice.

Their message is "making everyday count" and it truly is a place which focusses on living not dying. I was petrified, exhausted, and emotionally drained, but they held my hand every step of the way and gave us the chance to concentrate on loving eachother. When Gary died in June 2010 it wasn't a blessing but I know he was completely loved, and that is all I could have asked for.

I want to make sure that people know what an amazing place the hospice and all the staff are, and will do whatever I can to help them continue their much needed support. I did the walk last year which was only 2 weeks after Gary died, and I didn't raise alot of money, so this year please help me raise more.

The moonwalk is a 12 mile night walk through Grimsby and Cleethorpes, nothing compared to the very brave fight my husband had.
