Hello Friends & Family!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I never imagined myself teaching oral hygiene to children in South America, but one day I found myself doing just that. I have spent the last year volunteering in the slums of Buenos Aires to help the children there become educated in the basic mechanics of toothbrushing, many times giving children their first toothbrush. I am impressed by how resilient and charming are many of those who I've come to know throughout my experience. Now I'm asking you to join me in helping to give to those who have so little.
The Race: I will be running a 100 km adventure marathon called Cruce de los Andes this February to benefit Foundation Todos Juntos. It's three days of craziness: crossing rivers, lakes, wading through mud, fighting swinging tree limbs, scaling mountains, skipping across volcanic rock, dancing with bears and sleeping in cool mountain temperatures. http://www.columbiacruce.com/
The Foundation: Todos Juntos Childrens Trust was set up in the UK in July 2006 by Fiona Ambrosi to help improve the lives of children in the slums of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The main focus of the foundation is to provide free and accessible dental care to children. The foundation also serves to assist local soup kitchens, raise funds for neighborhood educational institutions and donate necessary food and clothing items to the less fortunate. I became involved with the foundation about a year ago and have been
very impressed by the amount of change a few people can make. There are currently three up and running dental clinics that serve hundreds of children, save many teeth from extraction and send little ones home with a smile on their face. Todos Juntos will not be contributing financially to my race. http://www.todosjuntos.org.uk/
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. You can donate to your JustGiving page from anywhere in the
world, as long as you have a credit/debit card or PayPal account.
Donations can only be made in pounds sterling (£ GBP). The current exchange is approx $1 GBP = $1.62 USD. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Todos Juntos is registered in the UK, so it was necessary to use the UK version (Sorry to all my American chums that you don't have a tax break!)
So please dig deep and donate now. I
realize that you each have charities to help and bills to pay. It
would mean a lot to me if you sent a small donation to these children
in the city that I now call "home".
Many thanks!
Emily
Hola Familia & Amigos!
Muchas gracias!
Emily
