Thank you for visiting my just giving page.

After six years I am once again facing the challenge of running the London Marathon. Having hated the final 10 miles of my last marathon run so much that I swore that I would never even consider running another marathon I am currently not looking forward to the 25th April at all!  This time I am hoping that I am a bit better prepared and that I will be able to take on at least some of the fancy dress runners who came cruising past me along the embankment and the aim is to try and complete the marathon in under 4 hours.  This could be wishful thinking!

By running the marathon I am hoping to raise as much money as I can for ZAP (www.zanzibaraction.co.uk  ) which is a charity that I have been involved with for a number of years.  During this time I have had the opportunity to visit Jambiani and witness first-hand the great work that the charity is doing.

Zap is a small ‘hands on’ charity which makes a big difference to a community of 10,000 in rural .  It focuses on providing sustainable long-term help in the areas of health, education and vocational training and concentrates on helping people to help themselves towards a better life.  ZAP has an African Director in Jambiani who makes certain that ZAP funds reach their target directly, bypassing the ‘middle man’.   In fact, due to low overheads and administration, the charity ensures that over 80% of donations find their chosen destination.

Although many picture as a tropical paradise, for those that live there this is not necessarily the case.  The local people are exceptionally poor and recently there has been a major problem with the power supply to the island. They have now had no power at all since mid December. Consequently the water pumps cannot function and people have been forced to drink from the contaminated wells which has resulted in a rapid spread of dysentery and cholera.  Sadly these problems have already claimed many lives.

If you would like to sponsor me, even the smallest amount will go a long way to helping this great cause and will be massively appreciated.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: ZAP gets your money faster and, if you’re a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Many thanks once again.

Lots of love

Emily xxxxx
