Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

For those that don't know me I am Emma. The 12th of July 2015 marks 25 years since I received a heart transplant at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle.

I am on a mission to raise £500 each for two charities (i.e. £1000 in total!) that are very close to my heart. These charities are the Freeman Heart and Lung Transplant Association (FHLTA) and The Children's Heart Unit Fund at The Freeman hospital (CHUF).

I am hoping to complete a number of different events throughout the year to raise money primarily in memory of my donor and their family, whose selfless decision enabled me a second chance at life. I have chosen the two charities listed above because it is the staff and support systems at The Freeman Hospital that have worked tirlessly to keep me healthy and happy. I feel so grateful for the care, support and love I receive from the wonderful unit at the Freeman. I cannot even begin to describe their breadth of knowledge not only relating to the physiological effects of transplantation, but also the deep psychological burden that transplant recipients have to cope with.

The support of staff and charities such as the FHLTA and CHUF make the journey just that bit easier, and really should be celebrated for their unique ability to make people feel better. It is people like these, that put your faith back into humanity. Goodness really does exist and I am ever so grateful that I have such amazing people in my life!
