Whilst I was reclining on my sofa last weekend I read in the news about the earthquake. Looking at pictures of bodies being pulled from the wreckage I realised how lucky we are that we still live in houses that have four walls, I am still symmetrical, I have food on the table and am not reliant on Oxfam for a shovel and a long toilet seat.
Therefore as a caring humanitarian I have decided to help. The abiding pictures for me were the children being rescued only to discover that they are orphans. There will, also, be a great number who will have to spend the remainder of their lives trying to cope with the loss of limbs.
Therefore, I have chosen to use the limbs I was born with; ...next week I will attempt the improbable and run from my house to the Office every morning. This is a distance of 9.85 miles, which will equate to a total of 79.26 kilometres over the five days.
Now the serious part.
As much as I love the thought of breathing all those exhaust fumes it would offer great encouragement if you could all find it in your hearts to support the Merlin charity, which is London based and specialises in health care for vulnerable people caught up in natural disasters . The majority of their work will be attempting to not only save lives but try and reduce the need for amputation. Their work in Haiti will last for several years.
