The #icebucketchallenge for MND is a fantastic awareness campaign which is taking the world by storm so we want our supporters and friends to raise awareness for MND by nominating and/or donating!

Motor Neurone Disease (MND), also known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a debilitating neurological disease that results in the degeneration and death of the large motor neurones in the brain and spinal cord. This leads to muscle weakness resulting in loss of mobility and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing. Some treatments can ameliorate symptoms, but there are currently no treatments that can halt or reverse the progression of the disease. For over 95% of cases of MND, identifying the causes has defied decades of research.

The Euan MacDonald Centre for Motor Neurone Disease Research is a collaborative group of multi-disciplinary researchers who study MND in Scotland. The aim is to understand MND and related neurological diseases at a cellular level and to implement strategies that will improve quality of life for patients.    (www.euanmacdonaldcentre.com or @EuansCentre)
