We're off on a sponsored cycle ride from Lands End to John O'Groats on July 8th 2011 and we will be cycling 1000 miles over 10 days (ouch!). Our aim is to raise enough money to enable us to buy a DynaVox Eyemax machine for the Stoke Mandeville Spinal Unit. It will be great if we can raise the £11,000 to buy an Eyemax and it will make a massive difference for many paralysed patients.
The Eyemax is used during the early stages of rehabilitation to help patients who have limited ability to speak and communicate in the normal way. During this time patients can feel extremely isolated and the Eyemax is a tool that can help them to communicate by eye movement. A simple blink can give them control over their daily lives and help access a range of things such as a keyboard, internet, games and email. Things that we all take for granted.
So dig as deep as you can and be involved in giving the Eyemax without getting blisters on your bum!!
