This year nearly 150 of FOMO's children passed their Primary School leaving exam but had no secondary school to enrol at. Due to the lack of secondary school places, FOMO want to build a secondary to provide a better future for the children in their care. Without completing secondary school and obtaining a MCSE the children will have no option except working on the land, and will live in poverty the rest of their lives. The average wage working as a tea picker is 37 pence per day!
It is planned to build a school on land that FOMO already own, the school will be built in 6 phases over 5 years. The first phase is a block containing 4 classrooms, administration room, and toilets, this will be put into use as a small school once completed and the other phases added as the funds become available. The last two phases will see the school change from a day school into a boarding school, allowing children from the remote centres to be educated.
This is an exciting project that will enhance the lives of the children, many schools in Malawi do not achieve good standards due to lack of resources, this is our opportunity to provide a high standard of education with good teaching resources. This facility will ensure that the FOMO children will be well educated and have a chance to go onto further education, and eventually good jobs.
