Facing The World is a wonderful charity started by my friend Martin Kelly in 2002. Offering pioneering surgery to young children with terrible facial deformities, this is a fledgling charity that deserves our help. The surgeons operate in their own time and free of charge and in doing so transform families lives. Even today some of these children risk death by stoning by the rest of their village. Facing The World is literally saving lives. Martin died in May 2008, but i'd made a promise to him that i would do something for Facing The World, not only for the children but for the truly heroic team of surgeons and staff. It is wonderful and humbling to know that even in these troubling times there are still heroes in the world and we are proud to be helping this exceptional charity. We are planning to row across the Atlantic from La Gomera in the Canaries to Barbados, West Indies in a two man rowing boat from December 2011 until January/February 2012. An unsupported event, we will take with us all our provisions and equipment needed for such an undertaking. We will undoubtedly face great hardship, to say nothing of mountainous waves, hurricanes, oil tankers, and inquisitive sharks! but the  way we look at it is that anything we face is nothing compared to what these children go through. Have a look at their video which takes just three minutes. It says more than i ever could here. It is on the website www.facingtheworld.net Please help us to help them. Thank you. Bertie Portal.
