We are a group of families with children serving in the forces. By December 2012 we hope to have raised £2500 for Veterans Aid through a variety of fundraising events and donations. (We’ll keep you updated throughout the year)
ANY amount is gratefully received so whether that be £1 or £100 we thank you in anticipation.
Veterans Aid is an unsung and amazing charity that looks after homeless ex-Servicemen or those in crisis. It does this without a fuss, so you may not have heard about them. They provide more than 20,000 nights of accommodation a year to homeless veterans – many of them being young.
Homeless ex-Servicemen and women, usually broken and destitute, come to see them from all over the UK at their ‘drop-in’ centre near Victoria Station, in London. From there begins a long and often painful path to regain their self-esteem and to reintegrate the community which many served bravely to protect. This journey involves a period of rehabilitation at their own veterans’ hostel in the East End of London; a good place with great people working there. When they are stronger they move on to more permanent accommodation – local authority flats or supported housing.
Veterans Aid are the ‘Accidents and Emergencies’ of the Armed Services charities. They are kept really busy with their work which they do really well and, with kindness and awesome speed. They are doing all they can to get these guys back on their feet, accommodated, treated and stabilized. Veterans Aid badly need the funds to allow them to continue with their work
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid (an additional 28%) is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
