In Malawi 14% of the population is HIV positive and 11% of children die before reaching the age of five, so you really cannot over state how crucial an issue health education is.

One of the most effective ways of drawing local people’s attention to the issues involved is through community open days. Which is why, when my friends at the charity Temwa suggested I travel with them to Usisya, in Malawi, to work on a community mural project (with school children and local artists) to be unveiled at one of these open days, I jumped at the chance.

So, to help fundraise for this project, I will be attempting to draw for a world record breaking 24-hours non-stop, at Bristol's King Of Paint gallery, between the 26 and 27 of February. If you'd like to sponsor me all you need to do is click the donate button. And if you want to come and watch me breaking the creative pain barrier for a very worthy cause, then do pop in on the weekend of the 26-27.

King Of Paint is at: 9a Haymarket Walk, Bristol BS1 3LN (between the bus station and the Bear Pit)

Some Background:

Bristol artists have been integral to Temwa’s fundraising programme since the charity started; and during that time I have donated a number of pieces which have been sold at their hugely successful art auctions. These help raise money to support the amazing work they do in Usisya, Malawi.

For the best part of ten years now I have worked with disadvantaged children and young people in Bristol, running community arts projects and street art workshops in the city. This will be my first trip abroad to do similar work.
