NAPAC is a charity which is very close to my heart, helping to support adult survivors of childhood abuse as they begin to face up to the demons that they've carried with them for many years and start their healing journey.
I for one know that the burden of carrying those demons weighs very heavily, and no matter how hard you try to ignore the memories at some point they have to be faced. Many, many adult survivors of childhood abuse do not have someone safe to tell, and therefore live with that burden and the loneliness it brings for much, much longer than need be.
NAPAC run the only national freephone Support Line for adult survivors, providing that valuable listening ear and signposting to local support groups where they exist, as well as providing valuable information via their website and email. Money that you give will go towards enabling NAPAC to continue providing the support that survivors, and their supporters, across the need and deserve.
This is something that I feel very strongly about, and I want to raise as much money as I can to help NAPAC in their work. To do this I am going to swim a marathon in the safety of my local pool, over a period of up to 12 weeks, starting from 12 July 2010 and ending 30 September at the latest. I aim to do a mile (64 lengths) three times a week. Any donation that you can give will be greatly appreciated by me, and most certainly by NAPAC.
