Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
As you know, Ally and Sam are big fans of weight training but cardio? That is a whole different story! So why sign up to complete a half marathon we hear you say...
In 2013, Ally underwent brain surgery at St George's Hospital in Tooting in an attempt to control her epilepsy. Prior to that, she had been on a significantly high dose of two anti-epilepsy drugs (AEDs) in an attempt to control her frequent seizures. As of the November that year, Ally has remained seizure free and has been completely AED free since April 2016. This has only been made possible thanks to the amazing epilepsy team at St George's.
We are fundraising for the Neuro team to be able to purchase a portable EEG, an essential piece of equipment to assist with diagnosing epilepsy. An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a recording of brain activity. During the test, small sensors are attached to the scalp to pick up the electrical signals produced when brain cells send messages to each other.
This machinery is currently only used within the hospital to monitor brain activity and capture any abnormal brain activity or seizures but the hospital hope to raise enough money so that patients can receive this treatment whilst living every day life. Ally was monitored in hospital on two occasions; the first time was unsuccessful as the relaxed environment of laying in bed and reading for a week did not cause the usual stress/tried triggers! Sod's law of course, within 30 minutes of being home she had a turn. By providing patients a chance to carry on with their daily routines whilst being monitored, a much truer reflection of their brain activity can be captured.
Any amount of money will be greatly appreciated by the hospital and it will also mean the world to Team Flexifit. If it wasn't for this hospital, Ally would still be living each day with the worry of when the next seizure might occur. Thanks to the hospital, our beautiful Savannah was able to grow safely during pregnancy and be delivered without any neuro intervention. For that, Team Flexifit would give the world to help others in a similar situation. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for reading our story and we hope to do you all proud.
