"Arthur Rank House is dedicated to providing specialist palliative care
and support to adult patients and their family, friends and carers. All
care is provided free of charge, and is offered to people living
throughout much of Cambridgeshire. The aim is to enable patients and
those close to them to live as fully as possible, and make the most of
the time that's left to them."
The Arthur Rank Hospice has
helped my mother through many of the darkest and most emotionally
difficult times during her illness: as a place of support, care,
alternative therapy and at times a place of quiet rest - somewhere to
go and think; away from us troublesome, worried family and friends!
This
firewalk is a minuscule way of saying 'Thankyou' to Arthur Rank for all
of their very hard and, at times, horrendously difficult work with the
terminally ill - as well as those who, like my mother, simply need a
little looking after during their illnesses.
I know that many of
my contemporaries are students, or worse! (In terms financial) - but
please, any amount you can give will go to looking after those who need
it the most. Some of whom are nowhere near as lucky as my mother - and
will not survive cancer. Help them to remain comfortable in the time
that they have left, and give what you can. Nominal donations of
pennies are more than acceptable! In order to proceed with the event, a
minimum of £100 pounds must be raised.
Thankyou for your time -
and if you're around in Cambridge on the night, feel free to come
along! (And watch me burn! :s) Though I do not suppose much will have
started before 6pm, as that is when the firewalker training begins! (:O)
There will also be purchasable refreshments, a live band, and performing dancers and jugglers!
