Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.  This page allows you to donate to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.  If you would rather donate to the Meningitis Trust please see my other page: www.justgiving.com/FredOHara-Meningitis-Trust

UPDATE: Well I made it, and lived to tell the tale!  In a snowy Edinburgh and in temperatures of -3 degrees C I managed to post a time of 24 mins 41 secs.  I managed 909th place out of 2,500, not bad for a fat chap.  Special congratulations to my Father in Law Brian who managed 9th place in his age group (albeit most of his age group would need zimmers ;-)).  A big thank you to everyone who donated, and for those who still want too just click above!

Cheers,

Fred.

As you may or not know, I spent 2 weeks in the Glasgow Royal Infirmary (GRI) in July 2009, suffering from pneumococcal meningitis.  This is a particularly nasty strain of the disease which affects around 200 people a year, kills 25% of those and leaves a further 50% with serious brain injury!  Thankfully the great care I received at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary meant I came out remarkably unscaithed.

In order to show my appreciation to the people who saved my life (GRI) and to the people who provided great support to my family and myself (The Meningitis Trust) I have decided to run the Bupa Great Winter Run on the 9th January 2010.  As anyone who knows my general fitness level will know, this 5k run would provide a challange for me at the best of times but I am determined to get fit in time to help give something back to those who have given me so much (i.e. the rest of my life!)
