My story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
My name is Freddie Campbell and I'm dyslexic. About 1 in 10 people are dyslexic. For most of us dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty mostly to do with short-term memory. It makes learning stuff much slower, and dyslexics have to work hard to develop strategies to compensate. If we get spotted early enough and get the support we need, and put the extra hours in, it doesn't hold us back - I got good grades at school and in October I'm off to Bath Uni to read business studies where I needed 3 grade As to get in (luckily already got them so on a Gap Year, partly to do the Marathon). The real problem for people like me is that you need to be 'officially assessed' as dyslexic before the system kicks in and you get support. That costs money (it's not free or paid for by the state). That's why I'm running for Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre, who did my assessment when I was 12. All the money I raise will go towards bursaries for children who need an assessment but can't afford it. If I can raise my full £1,500 it will pay for about 5 children. I know I'll get round - being dyslexic means you're used to putting in the 'hard yards'. My mum teaches dyslexic chldren and tells them 'life isn't a sprint, it's a marathon'. So it all seems to make sense then really. If you support me it will help make someone's education that little bit easier.
So please dig deep and donate now.
