There are an estimated 70,000 Child Soldiers in Burma/Myanmar - more than any other country in the world. They are taken from public places, as young as 11 years old and kidnapped, tricked or forced into joining the army. Some never see their families again.
They then enter a dark world of terror. They are beaten, tortured and drugged until they learn to obey orders. They are forced to witness and commit atrocities. Their lives become worthless and their youth disappears. They are deeply traumatised and look for any chance to run....
Free Youth provides care and assistance for former Child Soldiers from Burma.
Free Youth, together with our partners, provides a basic Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration (DDR) program for former Child Soldiers from Burma.
Free Youth helps them to re-enter the community, a whole social re-education process, transforming them from military personnel, back to civilians.
When we receive runaway Child Soldiers, Free Youth provides them with education, vocational training opportunities and helps them find work - depending on their individual age and circumstances. In some instances (if it is suitable) we will assist them to return home to their families.
It is very difficult to find funding to help former Child Soldiers, so we really need your help.
We aim to raise £5,000, the minimum needed to cover our next six months' budget - the more money we have, the more Child Soldiers we can rescue.
PLEASE HELP US SAVE THEIR YOUNG LIVES AND LET THEM HAVE A FREE YOUTH.
Thank you.
