GB Deaf Badminton raising money
Great Britain Deaf Badminton is a community foundation under UK Deaf Sport as a charity that raises money for deaf players, volunteers and coaches for local causes. Many players and coaches are doing volunteers work to help deaf players to get involved, allow them to achieve their dreams to play for Deaflympic Games, World Deaf Badminton and European Deaf Badminton Championships. GB Deaf badminton has an incredible journey to the final at Deaflympic Games 2009 in Taiwan and World Deaf Championship 2007 in Germany won gold and silver medals. Many of them have been fund raising using friends, families’ money to support the badminton players as currently no government or other organisations support the team.Most deaf players and coaches are all doing various events, such as 24 hours badminton, riding bikes for a gruelling 87 miles off road on The Ridgeway over two days, to raise money via JustGiving.com. So far they have raised over £4000.00 for last year's Deaflympic Games in Taiwan. Three coaches who is qualifed via Badminton England are from Hull & Yorkshire are doing voluntary work to assist deaf players to improve the deaf player’s badminton to the highest standard. Currently one of our deaf players is ranked No 1. in the UK and No. 2 in the Europe in hearing category Veteran.
We are continue to raise money to increase awareness for Deaf children and teenagers to take up a sport as part of their social inclusion and self confidence, building self-esteem and be a part of the Deaf Sporting community. We are hoping to set up road shows across the country to give an opportunity for deaf and hard of hearing children to play badminton and meet GB Deaf players as role models.
