This page has been set up in memory of Charles Gotto, who died in a tragic accident on Sunday 9 May 2010.
Charles and his wife Linda were huge supporters of this small local charity, which was set up in 2005 to help provide a better service locally to women diagnosed with gynaecological cancers. We are based at The Royal Surrey, but cover the whole of Surrey, West Sussex and Hampshire. Several of Charles's regulars at The Parrot have been touched by these devastating diseases and with his characteristic enthusiasm, generosity and warmth, Charles encouraged support for our charity. He opened up the Parrot for several wonderful events, raising valuable funds for GRACE. With this kind of support, we have been able to purchase specialised equipment, support clinical staff positions and begin several important research projects. Most importantly Charles played a role in raising awarness of GRACE and gynaecological cancer in the local population and beyond. Awareness is important as early diagnosis and treatment give the best prospect of saving and prolonging life and of preserving the fertility of younger women.
His tragic and untimely death is a huge blow to all who knew him and we can can only imagine how devestated his family and close friends are. To those who knew him, he will always be remembered for the brilliant man he was and his example to others will live on.
We are honoured that Linda and the Gotto family have nominated GRACE to receive in-memoriam donations. Everything you give will go directly to improving the delivery of medicine and care to those diganosed.
