My story

I'm loosing weight for Breakaway !
I aim to loose 20lbs between 2nd January 2012 and the 10th May 2012 to raise money for a charity very close to my heart - Breakaway. www.Breakaway-visits.co.uk
I am a Trustee of Breakaway and a Specialist Paediatric Stoma Care and Bowel Management Nurse.I've seen how Breakaway can make a difference to the children and their families. It's great to watch the children have fun, make friends, gain confidence and self esteem at Breakaway. So no more chocolate or cheese for me !!! .
Breakaway is a registered charity for children with bowel and bladder dysfunctions.
Every day in the UK a baby is born with, or a child develops a bowel and /or bladder dysfunction. There are over twenty types of conditions which may cause these problems. Their complexity and frequency range from 1:500 - 1:145,000 live births.
As Bowel and bladder problems are topics not openly discussed in public, some children grow up feeling ashamed and worried and having to keep their condition a secret. These children have to deal with their problems, often behind closed doors and feeling totally isolated from their peers.
By society they are not deemed to be brave or courageous.
At Breakaway we believe differently.
By providing Breakaway activity weekends and developing family support networks throughout the UK, we offer the opportunity for the children (and their families) to realise that they are not alone. The children that attend our events have a wide range of medical conditions e.g.
· Colostomy
  • lleostomy
  • Urostomy
  • Continent stoma (e.g. ACE, mitrofanoff)
  • Self-catheterisation
We look to raise public awareness of these conditions and the difficult journeys these children go through as well as ensuring that they receive the support they deserve so that they can grow in confidence and reach their full potential in life.
Breakaway relies on the generosity of individuals and companies. Without this financial support we would not have been able to help so many children; only with continued and increased financial support can we continue to help all of those children who need it.
I will keep you updated via this page on my progress!!
