The Challenge

For two novice runners to take part in the world's first Kilomathon (26 kilometer) road race from Nottingham to Derby on 14th March 2010 and then for Gayle to go on and run the London Marathon on 25th April 2010.

Why

Apart from the fact that we are both a little bit nuts!

Ethan was born 12 weeks premature weight just 1lb 8oz (a little more than a bag of sugar).

Ethan's prognosis was not a positive one, we were told that his chances of survival were slim, it was not expected that he would survive the first 24 hours.  Ethan spent a total of 10 weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and made slow but steady progress.

Ethan's battles, like so may of the children that need the help of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, don’t always stop when they leave, but without Neonatal some of these children, just like Ethan, wouldn’t get a chance to try.  Neonatal provides hope not only to children but families; it provides a chance of life for babies that may otherwise not have one.

We were lost when Ethan was born didn’t know which way to turn our whole world was in pieces.  The staff not only provided a high level of support and around the clock care to Ethan they were also there for us and and our family providing guidance, an ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on.

When people ask why we are running for Neonatal – the answer is easy – our son’s life, like any other child’s life, is priceless.

We know that we can never express in words or fundraising how grateful we are to Neonatal, but we can try to help other families and other babies who need the care and support of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

We feel that by supporting Neonatal people are supporting the gift of hope, the gift of opportunity and most importantly the gift of life.
