Story
Daniel is 6 years old & lives in Guildford, Surrey with his little brother Dexter, and his parents, Catherine & Simon. Daniel has spastic cerebral palsy, which means his muscles are very tight, and he can’t stand or walk unaided, so he uses a walking frame or his wheelchair to get around.Watch Video
Life can be frustrating for Daniel, as he needs adult help to do so many things that other children take for granted. Despite the hard work involved with everyday life, and despite the many hours spent doing therapy or in hospital waiting rooms, Daniel is a cheerful little boy with a real zest for life. He loves learning and he is thriving in his mainstream primary school, St Thomas of Canterbury.
There is no cure for cerebral palsy, but Daniel has been offered hope in the form of a life changing operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR). SDR followed by intensive therapy could give Daniel far better mobility, and greatly increase his independence, as well as making him generally more comfortable and reducing the need for orthopaedic surgery in the future. We need to raise a huge amount of money to allow Daniel to have his operation, and to contribute towards his physiotherapy and rehabilitation afterwards.
We will be running the inaugural Surrey half marathon for Daniels fund. Your donations will help us through the miles - especially Gemma as this will be her first half marathon (argh, the fear has set in!). Thank you for any donation.
