Many of you may not remember how poorly I was in the photo above, as I'm now the picture of health and vitality. This would not be the case without the care and support myself and Mum & Dad received from the staff at the Leicester Royal Infirmary's Maternity and Neonatal Units.
Although I was a healthy sized baby I had difficulty breathing and needed to spend some time in an incubator being given oxygen, antibiotics, and continuous monitoring during my first week. My fellow room mates in the Intensive Care Unit were not so lucky, with many of them having been born premiturely, and needing a lot more care and attention. So I count myself as being very lucky! But miracles do happen, and with the tireless support of the lovely doctors and nurses at Leicester I was soon reunited with Mum & Dad.
Whilst I was being taken care of, my Mummy was poorly too. Soon alfter my arrival, and suffering from exhaustion, she suffered an accute reaction to some medication and went into shock. She had to be returned to the ward for continuous monitoring but once again the wonderful staff took great care of her.
I would like you to stop and think about all the little ones that need the help of the staff at Leicester, and that without their continued support and care me and mummy might not be here today. Please give as much as you can afford and I'll promiss to give you a big dribbley kiss when I see you.
