Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

At the end of the end of 2005, my father John got diagnosed with a oligoastrocytoma grade 2 malignant brain tumour. This was followed initially by brain surgery to try and remove the tumour which proved challenging as his rare tumour was the same colour as the brain. Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy then followed which was effective and Dad was given a 5 year lifeline. He would have a cat scan every 3 months to supervise the development of his tumour and he was on constant treatment. Last year a scan confirmed our fears that the tumour had come back. He was to undergo Chemotherapy once more and initially results were positive but it quickly became apparent that Dad's body was giving up. He died at the end of June 2011 after a long and brave fight.

Every year about 4,500 people are diagonosed in the UK with a tumour originating in the brain and many more have brain tumours that spread from other areas of the body. It is a terrible condition that has extreme effect on the individual and it is very difficult for family and friends accociated.
Without the support of organisations such as Brain Tumour UK people like Dad would not have lived such a full life harbouring a tumour and certainly not for as long. Brain Tumour UK will use your money to:

1. Fund Research to improve treatments and cures - The difference in Chemotherapy that Dad recieved over the 5 years was astionishing. The second dose was far less invasive and was clearly better at focusing on the tumour than the 'good' cells around it and also he didn't lose so much hair. It was a pill dose at home rather than being hospital bound

2. Raise Awareness - The sooner these problems are noticed and diagnosed the better the chance of survival. Dad's tumour could have been apparent for 10 years or more before it was discovered.

3. Provide Support - This is the one that is as priceless as prevension. Few people can comprehend what its like to be terminally ill and this support is essential for the well being of the individual and the family.

Anyway,so to support this great cause I'm running the marathon.
