My godson Toby was born 13 weeks early on the 27th May 2009 weighing just 2lb 2oz. He spent 15 weeks in Kings Lynn Hospital, 11 weeks in the high dependency unit and the following 4 in the special care baby unit.
Toby has needed 11 blood tranfusions, an operation at Great Ormond Street for Patent Ductus Arteriosus (a valve in his heart which was open and caused too much blood to flow into his lungs).
He has had numerus infections, at 7 weeks old Toby became seriously ill with a unknown infection. He needed to be fully ventilated, a machine that breathed for him as his body became very weak.
Toby has had 2 lumbar punctures and develped chronic lung disease.
Toby is now over 10 months old and doing very well, he needs regular hospital check ups and has a some hearing difficulties, but without the hard work and commitment from the staff on NICU at Kings Lynn Toby would have not come this far.
Help raise £150,000 for an overhaul and expansion of King's Lynn's Queen Elizabeth Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
The Lynn News has teamed up with the hospital to raise enough money to create space for two new cots, a second parents' overnight room, improved security and a total revamp. The Special Care Baby Appeal aims to ensure King's Lynn has the best possible facilities to allow sick and premature babies to be cared for close to home.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s an efficient way to support the appeal. Your money gets there faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
