In 2012 I have volunteered my services to the charity I work for to run the London marathon. This has led to people describing me as mad and stupid and commenting that this is an excessive way to lose weight!

Help and Care are a small independent charity working on the south coast working with older people, carers and communities. They provide people with information and advice that will enable them to make decisions and find support that is right for them, giving them control and choice about the way they want to live their lives.

I am the Locality manager for Help and Care on the Isle of Wight.

My husband and sons have been helping me train (well mostly by eating a lot of cake with me). But sometimes, we get the boys in the bike trailer and Ed paces me on the bike and we go up and down the promenade to Shanklin with people looking on in disbelief.

Training is progressing well and I have been grateful to my friend James for his tips and the excellent piece of info that for every mile I run I lose 100 calories (or I can eat 100 more). Rocky bars are fast becoming my best friend.
