BUY A BEER FOR CHRISTMAS!
While you enjoy the festivities this Christmas time, spare a thought for the soldiers of The Queen's Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment, who will be spending this Christmas on operations in Afghanistan. Delivering supplies by convoy all over Helmand Province, they are always on the road, and have to remain 'dry' for the duration of the tour.
At some stage, you must have bought a friend a beer at the pub, or promised to have a beer for someone when they're away? Why not think of the soldiers in Afghanistan, and 'Buy a Gurkha soldier a beer for Christmas'.
Where does the money go?
All the money donated goes to support The Queen's Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment (QOGLR) Regimental Trust, which is raising money for its 'Afghanistan Appeal'. The Regiment is currently on active duty in Afghanistan, and the money raised by the Appeal goes to support injured soldiers from the Regiment as well as their families' welfare needs, at what will certainly be a stressful and emotional time.
For the unlucky ones, they may arrive direct from the battlefield and have few personal possessions with them when they arrive at hospital back in the UK; one of the Regiment's initiatives is that every injured soldier will receive 'a welfare bag', containing goodies such as a pay-as-you-go mobile phone with £20 credit, Regimental T-Shirt, and Regimental socks and boxer shorts. This gives them a sense of identity at a very traumatic time. A number of soldiers have already benefited from money raised by the Appeal.
