GURKHAS’ APPEAL
The Queen's Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment is trying to raise as much money as possible for its Regimental Charity, The QOGLR Regimental Trust, whilst deployed on operations in order to provide welfare support to any Gurkhas injured in Afghanistan, as well as supporting ex Gurkhas (in UK and Nepal) and their families in times of need.
GURKHA TRUCK PULL. On 10th January 2010, soldiers from 10 QOGLR will attempt to pull a 33-tonne MAN EPLS vehicle around the perimeter of Camp Bastion 2 in . 3 teams, each of 40 people, will work together as a relay to complete this task, which will take an estimated 2 hours!
YOU CAN HELP to raise money for this worthy cause by the Regiment to pull a 33-tonne armoured vehicle 4.4km around Camp Bastion 2, Afghanistan!
How you can help:
The MAN EPLS Vehicle. The 10.85 Litre, 440 Horse Power EPLS (Enhanced Palletised Loading System) made by MAN, is used as the logistic workhorse of ISAF in . 10 QOGLR use 46 EPLS to pick-up and deliver containers of combat supplies all over . The vehicles have 8x8 drive system and will tackle any terrain throws at them! The 10.2 metre long armoured vehicles are very well protected and cherished by the soldiers of 10 QOGLR.
The Regiment in . The Queen's Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment (QOGLR) are currently deployed on operations throughout . The Regiments’ primary role is to deliver combat supplies from , to the Forward Operating Bases and Patrol Bases in . In order to deliver these supplies to the front line, The QOGLR regularly deploys Combat Logistic Patrols (CLPs) of over 100 vehicles and 200 people into the Green Zone. These patrols, covering over 200km, can take up to 8 days to complete. In the first 2 months of our tour, soldiers of the QOGLR have experienced, mortar and rocket attack, ambushes, rocket propelled grenades and our greatest threat; improvised explosive devices (or roadside bombs). Despite the threat, our soldiers have shown professionalism, courage and always remain in high spirits.
The QOGLR Trust. The Trust gives welfare and benevolence grants to Gurkhas, ex Gurkhas (in UK and Nepal) and their families in times of need, as well as helping to preserve The Queen's Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment's esprit de corps and ethos.
